Chiseled Soulshale in Minecraft: How to Get It

Mojang quietly added a new decorative block in Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 7, released on November 3, 2026. The patch notes only say a new decorative block was added “somewhere.” The game files name it Chiseled Soulshale, and players have since tracked it to Ancient City loot. It sits alongside the calcite blocks and ice caves arriving with the Minecraft 26.4 winter update.

The block has a dull green finish close to Warped Planks, with a carved face that resembles the Singer from Minecraft Dungeons II. It has no crafting recipe and doesn’t appear in the Creative inventory at the time of writing. Mojang’s official Snapshot 7 changelog confirms the addition without naming it.

Steps to get Chiseled Soulshale in Survival

Ancient City chests are the only natural source. Each chest has a 23% chance to contain one Chiseled Soulshale.

1. Install 26.4 Snapshot 7 from the Installations tab in the Minecraft Launcher and create a fresh test world.
2. Locate an Ancient City with /locate structure minecraft:ancient_city, or explore the Deep Dark biome deep below Y level 0.
3. Sneak through the city to avoid triggering Sculk Sensors and Sculk Shriekers. Three shrieker activations summon the Warden.
4. Open every chest you find and check for the green carved block.
5. Mine placed blocks with a pickaxe for the fastest break time. Any tool works.

How many chests you need to open

At 23% per chest, the odds stack up quickly. Opening 4 chests gives you about a 65% chance of at least one block. At 9 chests, that rises to about 90%. A single Ancient City usually holds enough chests to cover this, so one thorough run should be enough.

Chest loot in Java Edition generates when you first open a chest, not when the structure spawns. Unopened Ancient City chests in a world you copied into the snapshot can still roll Chiseled Soulshale. Back up that world first, since Mojang warns that test versions can corrupt saves.

How to get Chiseled Soulshale with commands

Commands skip the Warden entirely. You need cheats enabled; see our full list of Minecraft cheats and commands if you’re new to them.

1. Enable Allow Cheats when creating the world, or use Open to LAN in an existing Java world.
2. Press T to open chat.
3. Enter /give @p minecraft:chiseled_soulshale 1, replacing 1 with the amount you want.
4. Press Enter.

You can also switch to Creative mode, but the block won’t show in the Creative tabs, so the command is still required.

Chiseled Soulshale block properties

Unlike Chiseled Stone Bricks or Chiseled Tuff, it doesn’t belong to any block family. No base Soulshale, slab or stair exists yet, which makes it a standalone block for now.

Is Chiseled Soulshale linked to the Sift?

Mojang has not confirmed a link. However, the clues point that way. Mojang announced at Minecraft Live in September 2026 that the Sift, first shown in Minecraft Dungeons II, is coming to Java and Bedrock in 2027 as the game’s fourth dimension.
