Fortnite update 42.30 arrives on October 1, 2026, and brings Fortnitemares 2026 to Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override. Epic has confirmed a lineup of horror crossovers, led by the Five Nights at Freddy’s collab. Leakers have also found map changes, new Sprites and a Halloween loot pool in the files.
The start date matters. Fortnitemares 2025 began on October 9 and the 2024 event on October 12. This year’s event starts on October 1, which gives it almost the whole of October before the season ends. So you get roughly an extra week of quests, bosses and Halloween loot.
Below, each change is marked as confirmed by Epic or leaked, so you know what to expect when servers come back.
Fortnite update 42.30 release date and downtime
Epic hasn’t posted an official downtime schedule yet. Going by past updates and multiple reports, downtime should begin around 4 AM ET (1 AM PT) on October 1, 2026. Servers usually return within 60 to 120 minutes, which puts the likely return between 5 AM and 6 AM ET (2 AM and 3 AM PT). Because this is an event patch, maintenance could run longer.
Tip: Your Sprite progress and account XP carry over, but unfinished weekly quests from the current set may rotate out. Finish any quests that are nearly done before downtime starts.

Epic’s key art shows Jonesy and Spice surrounded by Freddy Fazbear, Freddy Krueger, Slender Man, Asta and Lady Liberty. Epic will probably spread these crossovers across several Item Shop rotations instead of releasing them all on day one.
Fortnite 42.30 map changes
1. Arcade landmark becomes Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza
The “Arcade” landmark northeast of The Battlewoods has been under construction since Override launched on August 20, 2026. Players noticed early on that it looks like the pizzeria from the FNAF film, and it even has a stage inside. Leaks now point to v42.30 turning it into Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, complete with security cameras and jumpscares. It will reportedly also be where you can transform into an animatronic boss.

2. The Battlewoods gets a Halloween makeover
Some reports say The Battlewoods will be reskinned as Gravegate, with jack-o’-lanterns and haunted set dressing. Another report says the pizzeria takes over the Battlewoods area instead. Either way, expect this part of the map to change the most.

3. Elm Street and a Freddy Krueger boss
One early patch note breakdown says Freddy Krueger will appear as a boss at a new Elm Street location. Epic has confirmed Krueger is part of Fortnitemares but hasn’t said anything about his gameplay role.

Also expect the usual Fortnitemares touches: darker lighting and spooky cosmetic changes across the Island.
New Sprites in update 42.30
Sprites are this season’s signature system, and v42.30 reportedly adds at least two Halloween Sprites. Leakers disagree on what they do, so both versions are listed.
1. Vampire Sprite
- Leaked ability (version A): Grants siphon based on damage dealt, up to 50% at max Sprite level
- Leaked ability (version B): Lowers your max HP in exchange for faster movement and higher jumps
2. Pumpkin Sprite
- Leaked ability (version A): Gradually grows a Pumpkin Head that protects you from headshots
- Leaked ability (version B): Makes Pumpkin Launcher ammo easier to find
One report also mentions a third, unnamed Sprite. If the siphon version of the Vampire Sprite is real, it could become a standard pick for aggressive players, as siphon has always shaped how Fortnite fights play out. Now is a good time to use Sprite Power Hour and the faster Sprite leveling from the last patch to max out your current roster before the new ones arrive.
Halloween weapons and loot pool
Leaks suggest Fortnitemares favorites will return as Loot Hacks or regular floor loot:

Several sources list Witch Broom, Wood Stake Shotgun and Fiend Hunter, so those three are the safest bets. Leaked Exotics include Slap Candy Corn, Rocket Ride Launcher and Balloon Popper AR. Compare these with the current Chapter 7 Season 4 Exotics to see what might get pushed out.
Modes, Match Overrides and cosmetics
Two outlets report that Horde Rush will return, along with a Halloween version of the Reload map where it’s dark enough that you need a Flashlight Pistol. There’s also talk of a new Match Override called The Face, apparently tied to the season’s Nothing storyline. If it launches, it will likely use the same cartridge system as the current Match Override cartridges.
On the cosmetics side, each FNAF Outfit reportedly has a Withered style based on FNAF 2. The October Crew pack is Osric the Uninvited, and it fits the Halloween theme. Epic has confirmed free Fortnitemares quest rewards but hasn’t named the items.

The FNAF pizzeria is the most likely map change, and the Sprite abilities could change how Override plays in its last month.
