Horde Rush in Fortnite

Horde Rush returned on October 1, 2026, with the Fortnite 42.30 update that launched Fortnitemares 2026 in Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override. This year’s version drops the old fixed route across the map. Instead, it is built around perks, weapon upgrades, and an endless mode after the final boss.

The mode also works differently for rewards. In past years, Horde Rush had its own reward track. In 2026, its quests count toward the shared 26-quest Nitemare track, the same one Battle Royale and Reload use, which ends with the free Jack-A-Nape outfit. As of October 12, 2026, Epic’s official island page showed about 14,000 players active in the mode.

Below, you’ll find how a run works, every Horde Rush quest released so far, and the order that clears them fastest.

What is Horde Rush in Fortnite?

Horde Rush is a PvE mode where you fight waves of Cube Monsters, either with a squad or solo. Score is the core metric. You earn it by eliminating monsters, chaining combos, and picking up score multipliers.

Epic’s island description covers six mechanics. Each one either makes you stronger or feeds a quest:

MechanicWhat it doesQuest link
Monster PartsDropped by Cube Monsters; your in-match currencyCollect 500 Parts
Vending MachinesSell weapons and Starter Kits for PartsBuy a Starter Kit; buy 3 weapons
Upgrade BenchesRaise weapon rarity using PartsNone currently
PerksPicked each round to boost your buildChoose 15 Perks
Score multipliersPurple pickups that boost your total scoreCollect 10
Cursed StatueRaises difficulty for bigger rewardsInteract 2 times

Beat the final boss, the Final Peel, and the run continues into an endless mode. A moving Storm keeps pushing you to new areas the whole time, so camping one spot isn’t an option.

  1. From the lobby, scroll down to Discover.
  2. Find Horde Rush in the By Epic row, or search for it by name.
  3. Make sure the tile shows the By Epic tag. Creator-made Horde Rush maps also exist, and they may not track Nitemare quests.
  4. Pick squad or solo, then hit Play.

How a Horde Rush run plays out

Each run follows the same loop. You clear a wave, collect Monster Parts, and spend them at Vending Machines or Upgrade Benches before the next wave arrives. Between rounds, you choose a Perk. Over a full run, those Perks shape your build more than your starting loadout does.

The Cursed Statue is optional. Activating it makes the mode harder, but rewards scale up with the difficulty. Once you defeat the Final Peel, endless mode starts and runs until your squad is wiped. The Storm keeps moving throughout, so you’re forced to relocate between fights.

All Horde Rush Nitemare quests (October 2026)

Epic has released Horde Rush quests in weekly waves. As of October 12, 2026, six are live, and each grants 15,000 XP.

That’s 90,000 XP from Horde Rush alone so far. More Horde Rush quests could arrive in later waves, so check the Quests tab after each Thursday update.

Fastest order to finish the Horde Rush quests

Most of these quests overlap, so one or two runs can clear all six if you play with them in mind.

  • Wave 1: Save your Parts and buy a Starter Kit at the first Vending Machine. That completes one quest right away.
  • Waves 2 to 4: Spend Parts on three separate weapons rather than upgrades. Once the weapon quest is done, switch to upgrading your main gun at Upgrade Benches.
  • Every round: Take each Perk prompt and grab every score multiplier you see. Both quests progress passively.
  • Mid-run, once you’re geared: Activate the Cursed Statue. If it only counts once per match, finish the second interaction next run.
  • Throughout: The 500 Parts quest completes as you go, with no extra effort.

Horde Rush rewards: What you actually unlock

Horde Rush quests unlock no exclusive cosmetics of their own. Every one you complete counts toward the shared Fortnitemares Nitemare track, and progress carries across Battle Royale, Zero Build, Horde Rush, and Reload.

Since Horde Rush currently offers six quests, you’ll need Battle Royale and Reload quests to reach 26. Jack-A-Nape is the headline outfit among the free Fortnite skins this October. If you’re already grinding Reload, the separate Kado Thorne quests add more free rewards on top.

For comparison, Horde Rush in Fortnitemares 2023 had its own track, with the Murk Wrap, Heart-o-Lantern Emoticon, and Batwing Bonespike Pickaxe at 1, 4, and 7 quests. The 2026 setup gives you fewer mode-exclusive items but lets you mix modes freely.

Tips for longer runs and higher scores

  • Commit to one weapon. Spreading upgrades across several guns leaves you underpowered for the Final Peel.
  • Protect your combo. Score climbs fastest when eliminations stay continuous, so avoid long gaps between kills.
  • Activate the Cursed Statue only when you’re strong. It raises rewards, but a weak build collapses faster at higher difficulty.
  • Track the Storm. Pick your next fighting spot before the circle moves, not after.
  • Revive immediately in squads. Endless runs usually end because downed teammates stack up.

When does Horde Rush end?

Horde Rush is a limited-time Fortnitemares mode. Fortnitemares quest rewards are claimable until October 31, 2026, when Chapter 7 Season 4 wraps up. Epic’s Battle Pass page lists the season’s end as November 1, 2026, Eastern Time, but planning around October 31 is safer.

Signing Off

Horde Rush in 2026 plays more like a roguelite than its earlier versions, with Perks, persistent weapon upgrades, and an endless mode. Its rewards now feed the shared Nitemare track, so it’s best used as a steady XP source and a fast way to clear six of the 26 quests. With the season ending on October 31, getting through the remaining quest waves early leaves the most room before the Jack-A-Nape deadline.

Can you play Horde Rush solo?

Yes. Epic’s island description supports both squad and solo play, though squads handle endless mode and higher Cursed Statue difficulty more easily.

How many Horde Rush quests are there in Fortnitemares 2026?

Six as of October 12, 2026: three released on October 1 and three on October 8. Each grants 15,000 XP.

Do creator-made Horde Rush maps count for quests?

They may not. Play the version tagged By Epic in Discover to make sure your Nitemare progress tracks.

Does Horde Rush give Battle Pass XP?

Yes. Every Horde Rush quest grants 15,000 XP toward your Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass. For pure XP farming between quest waves, XP maps remain an option.

When did Horde Rush first come to Fortnite?

Horde Rush debuted in June 2019 with the v9.21 update as a four-player co-op limited-time mode. It has since become a regular part of Fortnitemares.
