Jack-A-Nape is the free Epic-rarity outfit at the end of the Fortnitemares 2026 reward track. It arrived with Fortnite update 42.30 on October 1, 2026, along with a clockwork chimp loading screen, back bling, pickaxe and emotes earned along the way.
You need 26 completed Fortnitemares quests. As of October 19, 2026, all 27 quests are live across Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload, and Epic says the event runs until November 1. The catch: Reload quests only count on Nitemare Island, which Squid Grounds Weekend kept out of the playlist until October 19.
Steps to unlock the Jack-A-Nape skin in Fortnite
- Open the Quests tab in the lobby and select Fortnitemares to see your counter and every Nitemare quest set.
- Clear all 12 Battle Royale quests across Nitemare One, Two and Three. Zero Build counts too.
- Finish all 9 Horde Rush quests in the limited-time mode.
- Queue Reload and check the pre-match map. Only matches on Nitemare Island count toward Reload: Nitemare One.
- Complete enough Reload quests to reach 26. Jack-A-Nape then lands in your Locker automatically.

To save time, stack quests in a single Battle Royale match. Landing at Nightmare Neighborhood lets you carve pumpkins, and defeating Freddy Krueger there drops Freddy’s Nightmare for its damage quest. Our Freddy Krueger skin guide covers that crossover. For Horde Rush quests, our Horde Rush guide explains the Perks, Vending Machines and Cursed Statue.
Why you can’t skip the Reload quests
Most guides list the quests without doing the math. Here’s how the 27 quests split by mode:
| Mode | Quest sets | Quests |
|---|---|---|
| Battle Royale | Nitemare One, Two, Three | 12 |
| Horde Rush | Nitemare One, Two, Three | 9 |
| Reload | Nitemare One, Two | 6 |
| Total | 27 |
Battle Royale and Horde Rush give you 21 quests. That’s enough for the Jack’s Tambourine pickaxe at 20, but not the outfit. You need at least 5 of the 6 Reload quests, so Reload is mandatory.
Reload: Nitemare One has three location quests, all on Nitemare Island:
- Deal 500 damage at Retail Ruin or Estranged Estate
- Land at 10 Named Locations
- Search 25 containers at Terror Turrets or Haunted Hamlet
Reload: Nitemare Two stays locked until you finish a Nitemare One quest. Drop at Haunted Hamlet or Terror Turrets to log a landing and search containers in the same match.
After October 19, Nitemare Island sits in both the Ranked rotation (with Surf City and Stranger Things) and the Unranked rotation (with Squid Grounds and Surf City). If the pre-match map shows another island, that match won’t count toward the Nitemare One quests.
All Fortnitemares rewards on the way to Jack-A-Nape

| Quests completed | Reward | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Jack-A-Nape Banner Icon | Banner |
| 5 | The Clockwork Ape | Loading Screen |
| 8 | Wind-Up Key | Back Bling |
| 12 | Monkey Biz | Emoticon |
| 16 | Jack-A-Nape | Spray |
| 20 | Jack’s Tambourine | Pickaxe |
| 24 | Tambourine Surprise | Emoticon |
| 26 | Jack-A-Nape | Outfit (Epic) |
The 16-quest Jack-A-Nape is a spray that shares the outfit’s name. Don’t mistake it for the skin.
Signing Off
Jack-A-Nape is one of the easier free skins this season, but the Reload requirement puts most of the work in the last 12 days. If you have done all your Battle Royale and Horde Rush quests, Nitemare Island is your only path to 26.
Epic hasn’t said whether Jack-A-Nape will return through the Item Shop after Fortnitemares. For more freebies, see every free Fortnite skin available.
Yes. It’s a quest reward that needs no V-Bucks, Battle Pass or gift card.
As of writing, there are 27 quests: 12 in Battle Royale, 9 in Horde Rush and 6 in Reload. You need 26 for the outfit.
Epic says Fortnitemares runs until November 1, 2026. It hasn’t posted an exact cutoff time, so finish a few days early.
No. The Reload: Nitemare One quests name Nitemare Island locations, so only matches on that map count.
Epic hasn’t confirmed a return. Free event skins sometimes return later for V-Bucks, but nothing is announced.
