How to Redeem a Fortnite V-Bucks Card

A Fortnite V-Bucks Card is one of the simplest ways to add V-Bucks to your Epic account, but the redemption process has a platform-specific step on Xbox and PlayStation that catches a lot of players off guard. This guide covers the full process, current denominations, what changed with Epic’s March 2026 pricing update, and why a physical card is currently the better deal compared to buying V-Bucks directly in-game.

What Is a Fortnite V-Bucks Card?

A V-Bucks Card is a prepaid PIN-based code sold at retail stores that adds a fixed amount of V-Bucks directly to your Epic Games account. It can only be redeemed for V-Bucks — not Epic Games Store purchases, Fortnite Crew subscriptions, or fab.com creator content. That is the key difference between a V-Bucks Card and the newer Fortnite Gift Card currently replacing it.

There are no fees or expiration dates. The full face value is added the moment you confirm the redemption, and it is locked to a single account and device. Once committed to a platform, the balance cannot be transferred or withdrawn.

How to Redeem a Fortnite V-Bucks Card

Redemption happens through Epic’s website only. You cannot redeem a V-Bucks Card from inside the Fortnite client.

  1. Go to your Epic Games Account Settings and confirm you are logged into the correct account. If redeeming for a console, sign in with your console credentials.
  2. Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard, or hover over your display name in the top right of the Epic Games site and select V-Bucks Card.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Scratch off the back of the card and enter the PIN code with no dashes.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select the platform you want the V-Bucks applied to, then click Next. Only devices already linked to your signed-in Epic account will appear here.
  7. Review the Epic account, device, and new balance shown, then click Confirm.

If you redeemed to PC, mobile, or Nintendo Switch, that is the entire process. Launch Fortnite and your new balance is ready to spend. Xbox and PlayStation require one additional step covered below.

Redeeming V-Bucks on Xbox and PlayStation

After clicking Confirm on Epic’s site, a secondary code is generated and emailed to you. You must enter this code on Sony’s or Microsoft’s site to complete the redemption.

Sign in to the Sony or Microsoft account that is actually linked to your Epic Games account before entering the code. If you use multiple console accounts, opening an incognito window before signing in prevents accidentally redeeming to the wrong profile. Once the second code is entered, V-Bucks post to your account immediately.

V-Bucks Card Denominations and Prices

US retailers currently stock four denominations:

V-Bucks AmountPrice (USD)
1,000 V-Bucks$8.99
2,800 V-Bucks$22.99
5,000 V-Bucks$36.99
13,500 V-Bucks$89.99

UK cards run roughly £6.99 to £69.99 across the same tiers. Cards are stocked at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, CVS, Walgreens, and 7-Eleven in the US, and at Tesco, Asda, and Smyths Toys in the UK, though availability is shrinking as Epic phases them out in favor of the Fortnite Gift Card.

Why cards are currently the better deal: Epic’s March 19, 2026 pricing change reduced what you get when buying V-Bucks directly through in-game packs or the Epic Games Store. An $8.99 in-game pack now nets 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000. A physical 1,000 V-Bucks card still delivers the full 1,000. Epic has confirmed that existing V-Bucks Cards redeem at their printed face value regardless of the pricing change, making physical cards the stronger per-dollar option while they remain on shelves.

Important Things to Know Before Redeeming

  • Shared Wallet support varies by platform. V-Bucks redeemed on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile, or a cloud gaming service carry over to any other platform in that group, provided your accounts are connected. Nintendo Switch is the exception. V-Bucks redeemed to a Nintendo device stay locked to Nintendo devices only and do not carry over to PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or mobile.
  • Refunds and transfers are not available. Once a card is redeemed, the V-Bucks are permanently tied to that account. Gifting an item to a friend through the Item Shop is effectively the only workaround if you no longer want the balance.
  • Territory restrictions apply. Cards bearing a regional flag are locked to that territory. A card purchased in France cannot be redeemed on an Epic or PlayStation Network account registered in Canada.
  • Keep your receipt. Epic may request proof of purchase if your balance looks incorrect after redemption or if any issue arises.

Fortnite Gift Cards Are Replacing V-Bucks Cards

Epic began rolling out the Fortnite Gift Card as the long-term replacement for V-Bucks Cards in June 2025, starting in the US, UK, and several EU markets. Rather than adding V-Bucks directly, a Fortnite Gift Card adds funds to your general Epic Games account balance. From there, you can spend on V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew, Epic Games Store titles, DLC, or fab.com creator content.

Gift Cards are sold in $15, $30, $50, and $100 denominations, plus a custom amount between $15 and $150. Redemption happens at epicgames.com/redeem rather than the V-Bucks Card page.

One incentive worth noting: redeem a Fortnite Gift Card to your account for the first time before December 31, 2026, and you unlock the GHOST Monks Outfit automatically.

The Nintendo Switch Shared Wallet limitation still applies. Any V-Bucks purchased with a Gift Card balance won’t appear directly on Nintendo Switch hardware, although items bought through the web-based Item Shop will still sync to your Locker. Existing V-Bucks Cards can also continue to be redeemed as usual at fortnite.com/vbuckscard while retail stock lasts.

Although Epic is phasing out V-Bucks Cards, they’re still redeemable and currently offer better value than buying V-Bucks directly in-game. If you’re planning to stock up for the current season or a future Battle Pass, picking up a physical V-Bucks Card while they’re still available is the better option.
