WhatsApp appears to be looking for new ways to monetize its platform. First, it introduced ads in Status and Channels, and now it looks like a premium subscription plan may also be on the way.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on a paid subscription plan that could be called WhatsApp Plus. The feature was spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.26.4.8, where some users can already see an option to join a waitlist that will notify them once the premium plan becomes available.
As of now, WhatsApp has not revealed the official pricing or launch timeline, but early reports suggest that the subscription could focus mainly on customization and extra convenience features, while the core messaging experience will remain free. Here’s everything we know so far.
What Features Could WhatsApp Plus Offer?
While WhatsApp has not officially confirmed the full feature list yet, reports suggest that the premium plan could include several personalization options. Here are some possible features WhatsApp Plus could include.
Custom App Icons

It looks quite similar to what apps like Snapchat already offer. Subscribers may be able to choose from around 14 different WhatsApp app icons, allowing them to change how the app appears on their phone’s home screen.
Custom Themes and Colors
Users could also change the accent color and interface theme of the app. For example, buttons, tabs, and chat highlights may follow the selected theme color.
More Pinned Chats

Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin only three chats at the top of the chat list. With WhatsApp Plus, that limit could increase to 20 pinned chats.
Exclusive Stickers and Ringtones

Premium users may get special sticker packs and unique ringtones that are not available to free users.
Interactive Reactions and Customization
Some reports also suggest the subscription could introduce more interactive message reactions, themes, and extra customization features for chats.
When Will WhatsApp Plus Launch?
As of now, WhatsApp has not announced the official launch date or pricing for the Plus subscription. Since the feature is still in development and testing in beta builds, it could take some time before it becomes available to all users.
Also, like many beta features, some features may change before the final release.
Wrapping Up
WhatsApp Plus is likely to be an optional paid upgrade that adds personalization features like themes, icons, exclusive stickers, and more pinned chats. Many of these features also appear similar to what Snapchat already offers. The good news is that regular WhatsApp features will remain free for everyone.
