The Pond Sprite arrived in Fortnite with update v42.20 on September 17, 2026, partway through Chapter 7 Season 4, Override. It’s one of five community designs picked from Epic’s Design-A-Sprite contest, and it’s the first of those winners to actually ship.

What the Pond Sprite does in Fortnite
The Pond Sprite is an Epic-rarity Sprite built around mobility. Its tooltip reads: “Jump shortly after landing to trigger a Super Jump, if charges are present. Gain charges over time. Super jump strength increases and cooldown decreases with each Level Up.”
In practice, that means a normal jump followed by a second jump right after you land launches you noticeably higher than a standard Fortnite jump. You can hold up to three charges at once, and they refill passively while you play. Leveling the Sprite through use both boosts how high the Super Jump sends you and shortens the wait before your next charge is ready.
That makes it a genuine rotation tool. Instead of building or using a launch pad to clear a wall or gap, you can chain jumps to gain height fast, which is especially useful when you’re caught in the open and need to reach cover.
Pine & Kiri, credited as the community designer behind the Sprite (posting online as @matsubokiri), originally pitched it with a growth cycle from egg to tadpole to frog, plus a shockwave effect on landing. Both ideas were scrapped before release, leaving the frog-with-a-lily-pad-hat design and the jump ability players got instead.
How to get the Pond Sprite in Fortnite
The Pond Sprite doesn’t have a fixed spawn point on the map. It drops the same way most Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprites do:
- Open Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Codes. Since v42.20, Sprites of any rarity can come from either tier, and Epic Cheat Codes carry noticeably better odds for variants and higher-rarity Sprites. Power-ups and Cheat Codes are scattered across named locations and inside chests.
- Loot Chests and Rare Chests. The Pond Sprite can also spawn from standard and Rare Chest pulls, though Cheat Codes remain the more consistent source.
- Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes, if you find one. These are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite, with better odds skewed toward higher rarities.
- Keep opening Cheat Codes if you’re unlucky. Epic built in bad-luck protection: the longer you go without a new Sprite, the better your odds of pulling one you don’t already own.
There’s no confirmed named POI that guarantees a Pond Sprite pull, and drop locations shift as Epic tunes loot pools mid-season. Treat any specific location claim as unverified until Epic or a data miner confirms it.

Four Pond Sprite variants are live as of this writing, with a fifth still unreleased.

- Ability: Listed but not yet live; expected to grant a chance to find Sprites when eliminating opponents
Why the Pond Sprite is worth chasing early
Sprite variants and their bonuses reset with the season, so getting a head start on Cheat Codes now pays off later. The XP bump on the Gold variant stacks well with Sprite Power Hour windows, and the mobility from the base ability holds up in most rotations regardless of variant.
Everything you collect this season also feeds into the Sprite Garden, Epic’s new showcase island for your Sprite collection, so pulling the Pond Sprite now means it’s ready to display rather than something you’re still chasing when the season winds down.
