GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, through the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Rockstar Games Store, and you can follow our GTA 6 pre-order guide for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S if you haven’t locked in a copy yet.
The short answer for Xbox players: no. GTA 6 isn’t coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one. Rockstar, Take-Two, and Microsoft haven’t announced any Game Pass deal, and the Microsoft Store sells it as a paid pre-order. More importantly, three separate signals point the same way: Take-Two’s long-held stance on subscriptions, Microsoft’s own retreat from day-one Call of Duty, and Rockstar’s history with its last two games.
GTA 6 and Xbox Game Pass: What’s confirmed

| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Release date | November 19, 2026 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) |
| Price | $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate |
| Game Pass on day one | Not announced |
| Microsoft Store listing | Paid pre-order |
| PC version | No release window announced |
| Subscription tie-in | One free month of GTA+ with digital pre-orders |
Rockstar confirmed the pricing and pre-order details on June 24, 2026, as reported by Variety. Take-Two then reaffirmed the November 19 date during its August 7, 2026, earnings call, where CEO Strauss Zelnick called pre-orders “unprecedented and astonishing.” Nothing in either update mentioned Game Pass.
Why Take-Two won’t put GTA 6 on Game Pass at launch
Zelnick has rejected day-one subscription launches for frontline games for years, and he hasn’t softened the position ahead of GTA 6.
In a June 2022 interview with GamesIndustry.biz, covered by VGC, he said putting new releases on subscription “doesn’t make any sense to us because, economically speaking, we don’t think consumers are prepared to pay for that.” He added that subscriptions “can be potentially great for catalogue properties,” meaning games that have been on sale for a while.
Then, on Take-Two’s August 2024 earnings call, Zelnick explained the risk from the publisher’s side: offering a premium frontline title in a subscription “day and date” would push consumers to that subscription service. For Take-Two, that means fewer $80 sales of the biggest launch in its history.
The numbers make the stance easy to understand. GTA 5 has sold over 230 million units, and Take-Two reiterated an $8.2 billion net bookings forecast for fiscal 2027 in August. Hence, a Game Pass deal would require Microsoft to cover a massive chunk of lost full-price sales.
Microsoft pulled its own Call of Duty from day-one Game Pass
This is the strongest signal, and most coverage of this question skips it. On April 21, 2026, Microsoft announced that future Call of Duty games will no longer join Game Pass on day one. New entries now arrive on Game Pass Ultimate “the following holiday after launch (about a year later).”
At the same time, Microsoft cut Game Pass Ultimate from $29.99 to $22.99 per month. The current US tiers look like this:
| Tier | Price (per month) |
|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99 |
| Premium | $14.99 |
| Ultimate | $22.99 |
| PC Game Pass | $13.99 |
Microsoft owns Call of Duty outright and still decided day-one access wasn’t worth the lost sales. Therefore, paying Take-Two enough to make GTA 6 a day-one Game Pass title would run directly against the direction Xbox took earlier this year.
Rockstar’s Game Pass track record
Rockstar has put its games on Game Pass before, but only well after launch and only for limited stints.
| Game | Launch date | First Game Pass arrival | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 5 | September 17, 2013 | January 3, 2020 | Over 6 years |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | May 7, 2020 | About 18 months |
GTA 5 also rotates in and out of the service. It returned on July 5, 2023, with the Xbox Series X|S version, came back again on April 15, 2025, and then left Game Pass on April 15 across console, PC, and cloud. Notably, that exit landed seven months before GTA 6’s launch, so Xbox players can’t even revisit Los Santos through Game Pass right now.
Based on this pattern, it seems likely GTA 6 will stay a full-price purchase for at least its first year, and quite possibly much longer.
GTA+ is the subscription Rockstar actually wants you in
Take-Two isn’t against subscriptions. It just prefers its own. Digital GTA 6 pre-orders include one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s paid membership for GTA Online perks. Take-Two said on its May 2026 earnings call that GTA+ memberships nearly doubled year over year.
Apart from that, Sony appears to hold the GTA 6 marketing rights. Zelnick referenced a marketing deal with Sony in a Bloomberg interview, as Push Square reported in May 2026, though neither company has formally announced it. The official GTA 6 limited edition controllers are also PS5-only. With PlayStation handling the marketing push, a splashy Xbox Game Pass tie-in looks even less plausible.
Should Xbox players wait for Game Pass or buy GTA 6?
The math favors buying if GTA 6 is the main reason you’d subscribe. The $79.99 Standard Edition costs about the same as three and a half months of Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99, and you keep the game. If Rockstar follows its Red Dead Redemption 2 timeline, you’d wait roughly 18 months, and the game could leave the service again after a few months.

Final Thoughts
GTA 6 won’t be a Game Pass title on November 19, 2026, and nothing from Take-Two, Rockstar, or Microsoft suggests a change before then. Game Pass may pick it up as a catalog title down the line, much like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, but that’s likely years away.
For now, the official GTA 6 page on Rockstar’s site is the place to watch for any platform or subscription news.
