Samsung Galaxy S26 vs Galaxy S25 – Is It Worth the Upgrade?

Samsung has officially announced the new Galaxy S26 series, including the base model S26, the S26 Plus, and the S26 Ultra. The Ultra variant gets all the attention this time thanks to a new privacy screen that automatically hides sensitive content from others when viewed from the side.

However, apart from a couple of changes, there aren’t any major changes to the standard S26 or the S26 Plus. If you are looking to buy the new S26 and are confused between the older S25 and S26, here’s a detailed comparison of the two phones across price, specs, and features.

Design and Looks: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs. Galaxy S26

Design-wise, you don’t see much difference between these two phones. Samsung consistently maintains its design language, which differentiates its smartphones from the rest. As a result, you get the same vertically aligned camera bar on the back, though the new S26 cameras sit atop the extra pill-shaped layer, unlike the plain surface on the previous generation.

The flashlight position is also the same. Although there are some changes in the dimensions. The Samsung S26 is now a tiny bit taller than the S25 and also slightly wider. However, the thickness is the same at 7.2 mm, so you don’t notice much of a difference. Since the battery has increased from 4000 mAh to 4300 mAh, the S26 weighs 5 grams more than the S25.

There is also no difference in build quality; both the front and back are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the sides feature an aluminium frame. Both smartphones support dual Nano SIMs and come with IP68 water resistance.

On the front, the Samsung Galaxy S25 comes with a 6.2-inch screen, while the Samsung S26 is slightly bigger at 6.3 inches. Both smartphones feature LTPO AMOLED displays with a max refresh rate of 120Hz and peak brightness of 2600 nits.

Both smartphones come with flat displays with almost edge-to-edge screens. You can’t find any noticeable difference between the looks on the front. They also come with a centre punch-hole camera. Apart from a slight increase in display size, there isn’t much of a difference between these smartphones.

So whether you are reading, watching media, or playing games, you don’t notice much difference between them.

Processor: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs. Galaxy S26

Samsung brings back an old tradition that was omitted from the previous Galaxy S25 series. For those who are unaware, Samsung launches its Galaxy S series with different processors depending on the region.

Globally, the Samsung Galaxy S26 is powered by the Exynos 2600 processor, while in some regions, such as the US and Canada, and in China, it comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.

While the Exynos processors are not bad, compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon, they slightly fall short in terms of performance and efficiency.

The latest Samsung Exynos 2600 is powered by a chip built on the latest 2nm process, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, which is built on a 3nm process. However, based on history and past performance comparisons, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 should perform better than the Exynos 2600.

Real-world performance of these phones is still uncertain; however, I managed to grab a direct comparison between the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the Exynos 2600.

As you can see from the image above, the CPU performance of the Samsung Galaxy Exynos 2600 is slightly ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while their gaming performance is almost equal.

However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 beats the Exynos 2600 in battery life. Which is kind of expected, because Samsung Exynos processors tend to overheat and are less efficient than Qualcomm processors.

Another big change this year is that Samsung has omitted the 128 GB variant; the base variant now starts at 256 GB, and prices have increased. Both smartphones come with 512 GB as a max storage variant. However, because of the latest processor, the performance of the new Samsung Galaxy S26 should be better than that of the older S25.

However, many users still prefer Snapdragon over Exynos. Currently, we don’t have any real-world comparisons on how the Samsung Exynos 2600 performs.

We have heard good things about this processor in the past, even beating the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in some areas. I will update this post as soon as I have the actual performance data for both processors. For now, in terms of performance, the Samsung Galaxy S26 should be better than the S25 thanks to the latest processor.

Camera: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs. Galaxy S26

The camera hardware is also very similar on both smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S25 features a triple-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S26 also comes with similar camera hardware: a 50-megapixel main rear camera with OIS, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom, and the same 12-megapixel camera with a 120-degree field of view.

Samsung has also used the same 12-megapixel front camera on both smartphones. You can shoot up to 8K 30 fps videos on both smartphones using the rear camera, and also 4K 60 FPS support on the front.

However, in camera tests, the Samsung Galaxy S26 produces brighter images than the Galaxy S25. Here are a few samples for your judgment. I have very mixed opinions on the Samsung Galaxy S26 camera because brighter doesn’t always translate to better pictures.

Also, the images from the S26 look so unnatural compared to the S25. However, we should get more camera details and samples in the future. Overall, the camera performance is very similar, with slightly brighter pictures on the Samsung Galaxy S26.

If you are looking for brighter pictures, Samsung Galaxy S26 camera samples might impress you. Otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy S25 camera is also very good for the price, especially after discounts.

Battery: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs. Galaxy S26

Before comparing smartphone battery sizes, the Samsung Galaxy S26 launched in 2026 with a 4300 mAh battery, even though most other flagship phones have moved to 6000 mAh batteries.

Even the software optimization could help Samsung. You can see the video comparing the Samsung Galaxy S25’s battery life to that of other major smartphones in that price range. As you can see, this Samsung Galaxy S25 falls short of every smartphone test. Even with the 300 extra mAh bump on the Samsung Galaxy S26, Samsung is still very behind other Chinese smartphones.

Since you are directly looking to buy a Samsung smartphone, comparing the Samsung Galaxy S25 versus the Samsung Galaxy S26, you can get better battery life on the Samsung Galaxy S26, thanks to an extra 300 mAh.

However, the disappointing thing is that Samsung still only offers 25W wired charging support, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging support. The charging speeds should be the same, with no noticeable difference.

Price: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs. Galaxy S26

In the era of increasing smartphone prices, Samsung has also increased the price of the base variant Samsung Galaxy S26, now it starts around $899, compared to $799, which was the price initially when the Samsung Galaxy S25 was launched.

While the price increase justifies the extra 128 GB of storage on the base variant, given that the other specifications of this smartphone haven’t changed significantly, the price bump isn’t welcome.

If you are getting the Samsung Galaxy S25 at a much lower price than the Samsung Galaxy S26, you can easily pick the Samsung Galaxy S25. It has a similar design, flagship performance, similar cameras, and almost similar battery life.

However, if you particularly care about better software support, Samsung promises 7 years of software updates. The latest Samsung Galaxy S26 will get 7 years of software updates from the launch, while the S25 gets 6 years of software updates remaining.

The software is also the same. The Samsung Galaxy S26 comes with One UI 8.5 out of the box; however, the Samsung Galaxy S25 has already received the One UI 8 update.
