Fortnite’s v42.20 update landed on September 17, 2026, and brought Crash Bandicoot into Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, alongside Spyro as part of the N. Sane Duo crossover. The patch also folded in the rest of Fortnite’s Override season content, including four other Sprites tied to Pac-Man, Persona, and a community design contest winner.
The Crash Bandicoot Sprite stands out among them. It’s a Legendary-tier item, and it gives you an actual combat move, Crash’s signature spin, rather than a passive buff. That’s made it one of the more sought-after pickups since Override began, and it isn’t dropping in every lobby.
Here’s what the Sprite does and where players have been finding it since launch.
What the Crash Bandicoot Sprite does
Jump and use the Sprite to trigger a whirlwind attack, Crash’s spin move, that damages and knocks back any enemies caught in the radius. Like other Sprites introduced this chapter, it levels up as you use it: damage climbs and the cooldown shrinks at each level. Epic hasn’t published exact numbers for the higher levels yet, so treat any specific damage figures floating around as rough estimates until more players reach max level.
The Sprite sits in your item slot like any other piece of loot, and it can be knocked out of your inventory if you’re eliminated, so holding onto one through a full match isn’t guaranteed.
Where to find the Crash Bandicoot Sprite in Fortnite
1. Search high ground and mountain POIs
This Sprite favors elevated terrain, and Green Hill Zone, the new POI that replaced Calamari Canyon this season, is the clearest match on the current map. It’s built around steep slopes and a vertical loop, and it’s the highland spot that’s come up most often in player reports since launch.
Lifty Lodge and the high ground around The Battlewoods have also turned up a few times, though neither is confirmed as an intentional spawn point the way Green Hill Zone appears to be.
2. Use the Cheat Code Locator gizmo
The Cheat Code Locator is a Gizmo that points you toward the nearest Cheat Code panel without taking up an inventory slot. Cheat Codes appear on walls, floors, and other surfaces around named POIs, and each one carries a Rare, Epic, or Legendary tier, with higher tiers asking for a longer directional sequence. Completing a code hands you whichever Sprite is tied to that specific panel, which can include Crash Bandicoot’s.
You can pick up a Locator by spending 1,500 Sprite Dust at a Sprite Extraction Site (capped at one purchase a day), by completing certain quests, or as a reward from Lobby Hack Codes.
3. Open chests and Temple Vaults
The Sprite also drops from regular chests across the island and from Temple Vaults, which hold a higher-quality loot pool than standard chests. Neither guarantees a Crash Bandicoot Sprite specifically, since chest loot is shared across every Sprite currently in rotation, but they’re the most passive way to stumble into one while looting normally.
4. Eliminate an opponent carrying it, or trade for it
If an opponent already has the Sprite equipped, eliminating them lets you loot it straight from their inventory. Trading with a squadmate works too, so if a teammate pulls a duplicate or a variant they don’t want, ask before assuming you’ll have to find your own.
Crash Bandicoot Sprite variants
Four upgraded, Legendary-tier versions of the Sprite exist. Gold, Cheat Master, and Loot Hacker were live at launch on September 17. The fourth, Bounty Hunter, didn’t go live until September 24, so anyone farming variants in the first week only had three to chase.
1. Gold
Bonus effect: A 3x XP multiplier on eliminations while equipped.
2. Cheat Master
Bonus effect: Removes the risk of botching a Cheat Code’s directional sequence, so every input registers correctly.
3. Loot Hacker
Bonus effect: Raises the spawn chance of items you’ve upgraded through Loot Hack, the Override tab where you spend Sprite Dust to customize what drops in your matches.
4. Bounty Hunter
Bonus effect: A 7% chance to find a Sprite, not necessarily the Crash Bandicoot one, whenever you eliminate an opponent.
You level any variant the same way you level the base Sprite: extracting other Sprites, opening chests and Cheat Codes, using Admin Lobby Panel Hack codes, or simply playing matches. Bounty Hunter is the exception, since it only gains experience from eliminations.
Tips to find it faster
Land near Green Hill Zone early and rotate through its high ground before checking chests elsewhere, since its terrain lines up best with where the Sprite tends to spawn. Save up Sprite Dust between matches so you can buy a Cheat Code Locator the moment you land instead of hoping to stumble on a panel. And if Loot Hack already has the Crash Bandicoot Sprite queued up as one of your customized drops, prioritize the POIs tied to that hack over general looting.

The Crash Bandicoot Sprite is still settling into the meta a week after Override launched, and the Bounty Hunter variant only just went live. Drop rates and best-known locations will likely keep shifting as more of the Chapter 7 Season 4 map gets explored and Epic tunes the Sprite based on how often it shows up in the endgame.
