Rockstar Games dropped GTA 6’s second trailer on May 6, 2025, and fans immediately started freeze-framing every face on screen. One name kept coming up: Bobby Moynihan, the former Saturday Night Live cast member. A character shown in Trailer 2 looked and sounded enough like him that the theory quickly spread across Reddit and X.
The speculation has resurfaced ahead of Rockstar’s GTA 6 Extended Look on August 27, 2026. With the game approaching its November 19 launch, any new footage could give fans a better look at its supporting characters and potentially add more evidence to some of these casting theories.
So, is Bobby Moynihan actually in GTA 6? Here’s what the Trailer 2 evidence shows, which character fans think he could be playing, and what Rockstar has officially confirmed so far.
Who Is Bobby Moynihan?
Bobby Moynihan is an American actor and comedian best known for spending nine seasons on Saturday Night Live, where he played memorable characters including Drunk Uncle and Anthony Crispino.
He has also built up an extensive voice-acting résumé across animated movies and television. That combination of comedy, character acting, and voice work makes him a believable choice for the kind of eccentric supporting character Rockstar regularly puts into Grand Theft Auto games.
However, Moynihan’s career background only makes the theory plausible. It does not connect him directly to GTA 6.
Is Bobby Moynihan in GTA 6 Trailer 2?
Possibly, but there is currently no official confirmation that Bobby Moynihan appears in GTA 6.
The character behind the speculation is Cal Hampton, one of the supporting characters Rockstar has revealed for the game. Cal is Jason’s friend and an associate of Brian Heder. Rockstar portrays him as someone more comfortable staying at home, monitoring Coast Guard communications, and diving into conspiracy theories than dealing with the outside world.
Fans have pointed to two main similarities between Cal and Moynihan.

The second is his voice. Cal’s brief dialogue has a cadence that some fans believe resembles Moynihan’s speaking and voice-acting style.
Neither point is strong enough to confirm the casting. Character models do not necessarily look exactly like their voice actors, and judging an actor from a few seconds of dialogue is particularly unreliable.
Could Cal Hampton Be Matty Matheson Instead?
Bobby Moynihan is not the only person fans have linked to Cal Hampton. Another popular theory points to chef and actor Matty Matheson, best known to many viewers for The Bear. Fans have noted similarities in Cal’s appearance, build, and comedic energy.
The problem is that the Matheson theory has essentially the same evidence as the Moynihan theory: visual resemblance and a very short amount of dialogue.
There is currently no official evidence connecting either Moynihan or Matheson to Cal Hampton. Until Rockstar reveals the actor or the game’s credits become available, both should be treated as fan theories rather than casting information.
Has Rockstar Confirmed the GTA 6 Voice Cast?
No. Rockstar has not officially revealed the actors behind GTA 6’s major characters.
That includes Jason and Lucia, despite both protagonists appearing extensively across GTA 6’s promotional material.

Other GTA 6 Trailer 2 Actor Rumors
Moynihan is far from the only recognizable name fans have attached to a GTA 6 character. Another theory links Stephen Root, known for roles in Barry, Office Space, and King of the Hill, to Brian Heder. Brian is an old-school drug runner who has connections to Jason and appears in Rockstar’s character material.
Much like the Bobby Moynihan theory, the Stephen Root speculation comes primarily from perceived similarities in appearance and voice.
That makes these theories fun to compare, especially as Rockstar releases more footage, but none should be presented as confirmed casting.
So, Is Bobby Moynihan Really in GTA 6?
For now, there is no solid evidence confirming Bobby Moynihan is in GTA 6. Fans think he could be the actor behind Cal Hampton because of the character’s appearance and voice in Trailer 2. Others believe Matty Matheson is a closer match. Rockstar has not confirmed either actor.
