Epic added the Honey Sprite to Fortnite on October 15, 2026, with update v42.40 during Fortnitemares 2026. It’s the last of five community “Design A Sprite” contest winners, created by Conejito_sam, and it joins an already crowded Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprite lineup.
The Sprite is Epic rarity and drops from Pumpkin Chests, regular Chests, Rare Chests and Trick or Treat Cheat Codes. According to the official v42.40 update notes, it gives you a chance to spawn bees at the hit location when you deal damage with a ranged weapon. You have until the season ends on November 1, 2026 (ET) to bank it.
Steps to get Honey Sprite in Fortnite

- Queue into a core Battle Royale match. Sprites don’t spawn in Competitive playlists.
- Land at Nightmare Neighborhood or Golden Grove and smash every Pumpkin Chest you see. Community testing shows Pumpkin Chests always drop a Fortnitemares Sprite, though Epic hasn’t confirmed per-Sprite odds.
- Search Chests and Rare Chests along your route, and enter any Trick or Treat Cheat Codes you find. If a code shows as Corrupted, hit it once with your Pickaxe and enter it again.
- Pick up the Honey Sprite and equip it from your inventory.
- Head to an Extraction Site marked on the map, interact with the terminal and submit the Sprite. You can also use a Portable Extractor, which costs 2,500 Sprite Dust, to extract from anywhere.
Step 5 is the one most players skip. If someone eliminates you before you extract, the Sprite drops for them to grab, and it never reaches your collection. Once extracted, you can resummon the Honey Sprite from the lobby for 1,500 Sprite Dust, or 750 after you master it.
If Honey is the only Sprite you’re missing, a Lucky Locator leads you to a buried chest that can only give you Honey. Equipping the All Sprite Variants Loot Hack also reportedly raises Sprite odds from chests.
How the Honey Sprite’s bee ability works
The bees spawn where your shot lands, not around you. That makes Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles the best pairing, since you can trigger a swarm on an enemy holding a box from range.
Players report the bees deal about 5 damage per second and linger for a few seconds after you stop firing. The swarm covers a small area, so a target can walk out of it, and it can damage you if you push in too close.
The trigger chance is low at first and climbs as you level the Sprite. Epic hasn’t published these numbers, but community testing puts them at:
| Sprite level | Bee spawn chance per ranged hit |
|---|---|
| 1 | 5% |
| 2 | 6% |
| 3 | 7% |
| 4 | 8% |
| 5 | 10% |
You level it by opening containers, breaking Pumpkins, eliminating opponents and using items. Hence, a Honey Sprite picked up late in a match won’t do much in that same fight.

Cheat Master Honey is quietly the most useful pick for a Fortnitemares grind. It guarantees every Trick or Treat Cheat Code you enter, and those codes are one of the main Sprite sources.
Signing Off
The Honey Sprite closes out the Design A Sprite contest, and it’s one of the few Sprites that pressures enemies at range. However, its low early trigger chance means it rewards players who level it before late-game fights.
Fortnitemares and the Override Battle Pass both end on November 1, 2026, according to Epic. Epic hasn’t said whether the Honey Sprite carries into the next season, so extract it and every variant you want before then. Keep an eye on Sprite Power Hour times for boosted drop windows.
It gives you a chance to spawn a swarm of bees at the spot where your ranged weapon hits an enemy. The bees deal damage over time to anyone inside the swarm.
There are six: Honey, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter and Trick or Treat. All six went live with v42.40.
Yes, it stays in the loot pool until Chapter 7 Season 4 ends on November 1, 2026.
No. Epic’s description names ranged weapon damage only, so Pickaxe hits don’t trigger bees. The Deer Sprite is the pick if you want bonus melee damage.
No. Sprites are disabled in Competitive playlists, and players report Honey and its variants don’t appear in bot lobbies either.
